About the Artist

Artist Bio

Anna Stoysich is a multidisciplinary artist and educator based in the Loess Hills along the Nebraska–Iowa border. Illustrating the wildlife and wilderness of the Tallgrass Prairie and Great Plains, Anna Stoysich works to celebrate its abundant biodiversity. She is led by curiosity, inspired by imagination and is drawn towards expressing playfulness through a whimsy aesthetic. Anna mainly works as a painter, illustrator, muralist and ceramicist. Her public facing projects include a collaborative tile installation, The Celebration of the Wetlands, and multi-sensory gatherings such as the HeARTwood Dinner, which brought together artists, chefs, and musicians for a farm-to-table event intersecting with handmade pottery. Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, she received her BFA with honors from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Artist Statement

As a multidisciplinary place‑based artist, I primarily work in painting and ceramics to adorn walls and tables with illustrated objects rooted in whimsical ecological storytelling of the Tallgrass Prairie and Great Plains. The physicality of materials becomes a tactile way to move embodied grief of the polycrisis into playful expression.

These artworks act as entry points that deepen relationships between people and the more‑than‑human world and serve as conduits for connection. My work proposes to expand the imaginative capacities we rely on to address our shared challenges and to inspire a culture of reacquainting ourselves with nature.
